Bill Was Here by dal-designs
Bill Was Here
Aftermath of tropical storm Bill, taken the day after (06/17/2015)

Victoria county, Texas.
Drowned Forest by dal-designs
Drowned Forest
A view of the RV park at Riverside Park in Victoria, Texas right about the time the river crested on May 29, 2015.  The Guadalupe's main channel is about two thousand feet west of Vine Street, seen at far right.

The Guadalupe is normally less than a hundred feet from high bank to high bank, but at the 2015 flood's worst point it was 3/4 of a mile wide.

Taken with a DJI Phantom Vision 2 at about 100 yards elevation (the highest the FAA currently allows).
High Ground by dal-designs
High Ground
Aerial view of the Pumphouse Restaurant and Bar on the Guadalupe river in Victoria, Texas, right around the time the river crested at thirty feet on May 29, 2015.  Built on the highest point in Riverside Park, the Pumphouse came within less than four feet of flooding.  To the right is the rest of the park (including the Texas Zoo), to the left and below are the city's historic downtown and original neighborhoods, respectively.

As bad as this flood was, it was till almost sixteen feet lower than the legendary 1998 flood.

Taken with a DJI Phantom Vision 2 UAV from as high as the FAA allows- around three hundred feet.
Trains Don't Float by dal-designs
Trains Don't Float
Trestle bridge in Victoria, Texas within a few feet of the Guadalupe river thanks to record rainfalls locally and upstream in the Hill Country.  As bad as it is in Victoria, it is much, much worse in Austin and Houston- everything is saturated and the rains keep coming.  We shall see if this year matches the legendary 1998 flood, when the Guadalupe river was three miles wide in places.

May 27, 2015.  Taken with DJI Phantom Vision 2.
A Little Too Close by dal-designs
A Little Too Close
Back patio of the Pumphouse Restaurant in Victoria, Texas.   Normally the water level of the Guadalupe river is twenty-five feet or more below the deck.

May 27, 2015.  Taken with DJI Phantom Vision 2 UAV.
DAL Designs is proud to announce the launch (pun intended) of its newest venture, DAL Visions.  Using commercially available UAVs and video editing software, DAL Visions will provide high-quality aerial video for everything from special events such as Victoria Independent School District's Fishing with Friends and weddings to pipeline and utility line inspections.  The sky is the limit (again with the puns) in the developing field of commercial UAV use!

Due to current FAA regulations, DAL Visions is currently offering its services free of charge to select businesses and charities. However, within the next six months we hope to have our FAA Certificate of Waiver or Authorization and Section 333 exemption.  Those Federal permissions will allow DAL Visions to conduct limited UAV photography for profit.

Until then, we've uploaded a few sample videos. Enjoy!

  • Mood: Pride
  • Listening to: Mother nature after a rainstorm
  • Reading: FAA Section 333 regulations
  • Watching: BBC Restoration Home
  • Drinking: Sweet tea
